A group of environmental activists entered the territory of London Stansted Airport and poured orange paint on several private planes. The target of their attack was reportedly the personal plane of singer Taylor Swift, who is preparing for a series of concerts in the British capital these days. This was reported by RBC.RU with reference to the Associated Press.

Although Swift's plane was not at the airport, two activists were detained by police. The group Just Stop Oil, which claimed responsibility for the action, said it was a protest against the excessive use of private jets, especially by celebrities.

Just Stop Oil has long attracted attention for its radical methods of raising awareness about climate change. Last year, activists from the group smashed the protective glass of Diego Velázquez’s “Venus with a Mirror” and poured tomato soup on Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” at the National Gallery in London. The day before, Stonehenge was attacked by environmental activists.

Activists are calling on the UK government to speed up its transition away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energy sources.

Taylor Swift, whose “private fleet” flies disproportionately according to marketing firm Yard, has long been the target of environmental activist scrutiny.

In 2022, the singer topped the anti-rating of celebrities whose lifestyle makes the greatest contribution to air pollution.
