Boxers of Turkmenistan will compete for Olympic spots at a tournament in Bangkok

Three athletes will represent Turkmenistan in Bangkok at the 2nd World Olympic Qualifying Competitions in Boxing.

The qualifying tournament in the capital of Thailand brought together 579 boxers from 133 countries who will compete for 51 quotas in seven men’s and six women’s weight categories for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Shukur Ovezov (weight category up to 57 kg), Saparmyrat Odaev (up to 63.5 kg) and Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov (up to 71 kg) will compete for Olympic spots as part of the Turkmenistan national team.

According to the draw, the first to enter the ring as part of the Turkmenistan team will be Shukur Ovezov (up to 57 kg). He will have his starting match against Ziyad Ali Majrashi (Saudi Arabia). The winner of this confrontation will meet in the next round with the winner of the pair Carlo Paalam (Philippines) – Alexey Lagkazashvili (Greece).

Saparmyrat Odayev (up to 63.5 kg) will have to fight with Kong Chin Lee (Hong Kong) in the first fight. If he wins this fight, in the next round he will meet the winner of the pair Vu Tan Dat (Vietnam) – Tsendbaatar Erdenebat (Mongolia).

And the bronze medalist of the 19th Summer Asian Games in Hangzhou (China), Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov, will have his starting fight against the 27-year-old bronze medalist of the 2022 Asian Championship Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar (Mongolia). The winner of this pair will meet in the second round of the competition with the winner of the battle Nishant Dev (India) – Armando Bigafa Bigate Naae (Guinea-Bissau), writes the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.

The second World Olympic Qualifying Competition in Bangkok is the last opportunity for boxers to earn spots for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The Paris 2024 Olympic boxing competition will take place from July 27 to August 10 at Roland Garros and the Paris Nord Arena.

In all weight categories, competitions will be held according to the cup system. After the preliminary rounds (1/16 and 1/8 finals), quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will take place. The winners of gold and silver medals will be determined in the finals. Both losing semi-finalists will receive bronze medals.
