The largest Russian manufacturer of trucks, KAMAZ, intends to expand its fleet of unmanned trucks plying along the M-11 Neva highway. By the end of September, 12 more such cars will hit the track, bringing their total number to 43. Techcult.ru reports this.

At the moment, unmanned cargo transportation along the M-11 (Moscow - St. Petersburg) is carried out by 9 trucks: 6 KAMAZ and 3 trucks from Sberavtotech.

The project of unmanned KAMAZ trucks started last summer. The basis is the KAMAZ-54901 model, equipped with navigation, communication, technical vision systems and other equipment necessary for autonomous control.

In accordance with safety requirements, test drivers are still used on the M-11. However, as stated by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Andrei Belousov, the transition to completely unmanned control as part of the experiment is planned for 2025-2026.
