Scientists from Canada analyzed data on IQ tests taken by students between 1992 and 2022. The results showed that the IQ of undergraduates has dropped significantly and is now only 2 points higher than the rest of the population. Mail.ru reports this with reference to Frontiers in Psychology.
The authors of the study explain this by the fact that in the last hundred years the number of students has increased significantly. In the 1930s, only a small percentage of the population attended colleges and universities, but now virtually anyone can attend, regardless of intellectual ability.
This change has important consequences. College and university teachers need to reconsider their curricula and standards because students are no longer particularly gifted. Employers should also consider that higher education is not always an indicator of higher intellectual ability.
For students, this means that going to college or university is no longer a guarantee that they will become part of an elite group in society.
