On August 18, a meeting was held in Moscow between the heads of the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The reason for the meeting was the International Day of the Caspian Sea, reports the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The parties discussed various aspects of joint work in the Caspian region and shared their views on strengthening cooperation within the framework of the “five”. They also touched upon the issues of preparation for the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers of the Caspian states, which will be held in Moscow.

Earlier, at the conference “The Caspian Sea - the Sea of Peace and Friendship”, which was held on August 12 in Avaza, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov spoke in favor of discussing at the Meeting, first of all, the practical implementation of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea and other five-sided documents adopted the Caspian countries.

In addition, Meredov stressed the need to develop measures to improve the environmental situation in the Caspian Sea.

“We are interested in further development of cooperation in the Caspian region, including in the field of environmental protection. We believe that the Caspian Sea should be a sea of peace and friendship for all the Caspian states”, - Lavrov said.

On August 20, Moscow will host a meeting of foreign ministers of the Caspian states.
