A seminar on land degradation neutrality was held in Turkmenistan, the participants of which discussed the achievements in this issue, as well as the restoration and improvement of the use of land and water resources in the Amu Darya basin.

The concept of land degradation neutrality was first introduced to the global dialogue by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and endorsed by the international community in 2012.

Ensuring land degradation neutrality promotes a functional balance between what land gives to people and what people give to it, promoting a balanced approach that recognizes trade-offs and anticipates new degradation.

The seminar was held within the framework of the project “Conservation and sustainable management of land resources and ecosystems of high natural value in the Aral Sea Basin for multiple benefits” and was organized by UNDP together with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

This meeting is part of a series of capacity building activities in the field of achieving a neutral balance of land degradation, according to the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
