The best airports in Europe are Fiumicino in Rome, Italy, and Athens International Airport in Greece, reports “Europulse”.
Both airports were awarded the Best Airport Awards. It is awarded by the Airports Council International based on expert assessments. Airport assessment parameters include the presence of favorable conditions for the efficient operation of airlines, adherence to sustainable development goals, the introduction of digitalization, and a number of others.
Among the merits of the Rome Fiumicino airport is the work on the gradual abandonment of fossil energy sources and the transition to “green” energy. Athens Airport is also trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero, for which by 2025 it plans to switch completely to the use of solar energy for servicing the airport building and official vehicles.
Airports were assessed on other parameters as well. For example, the airport of Alicante in Spain was approved as the most accessible for passengers with limited mobility, Prague airport - for advanced digital technologies to ensure security and increase capacity, Gatwick Airport in the UK was awarded for biodiversity conservation policies - by 2030 the airport administration will completely abandon herbicides for processing fields around the air harbor.
