The State Library of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan hosted a national tour of the Central Asian Spelling bee competition, aimed at identifying skills in the correct pronunciation of letters in order to successfully cope with the difficulties of English spelling. About this reports the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan”.
The participants of the competition were students of most universities of Turkmenistan.
The competition is organized jointly by the US Embassy in Ashgabat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the ministries of education and culture of the country.
The first Spelling bee was held in 1925 in Washington, D.C., and then spread to the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Indonesia, Pakistan and other countries of the world. Today it has become one of the most popular language competitions.
According to the rules of the competition, the participants spelled the words, reproducing their written form and transcription. They were given only 2 minutes to complete this task. At the final stage of the competition, the “four” of the best students were determined, these are:
- Perman Kyyasov, who became the champion (TSU);
- Samir Babajanov (TSMU);
- Ogulgerek Pashikova (DATMDDI);

The winners will represent Turkmenistan in the finals of the Spelling bee contest, which will later be held in Tashkent.
