The results of France's most prestigious literary competition, the Prix Goncourt, have been summed up in Paris, reported TASS. The winner was the French writer Brigitte Giraud for her novel “Live fast” (Vivre vite).

The work of the author of twelve more novels in French, Brigitte Giraud, is autobiographical, it describes the events that led to the death of her husband in 1999 as a result of a motorbike accident. The writer became the thirteenth woman to win the Prix Goncourt. The 2022 winner was chosen during an academic dinner party at the “Drouant” restaurant in Paris.

The main literary prize of France was established at the beginning of the XX century by the brothers Edmond and Jules de Goncourt in order to support other writers. At present time, the size of the Goncourt Prize is quite modest by European standards - only 10 thousand euros, but the possession of it significantly increases the prestige of the author in literary and publishing circles. This award can only be received once in a lifetime.

The Prix Goncourt is awarded once a year only to authors writing in French, and the author does not have to be French. Over the years, writers of Russian origin - Elsa Triolet, Romain Gary, Andrey Makin and others - also became its owners.
