An International forum, dedicated to environmental aspects of hydrocarbon production launched in Turkmenistan

Today the International Oil and Gas Forum OGT-2022, dedicated to the topic “Environmental Aspects of the Production of Hydrocarbon Resources” started in a hybrid format in Ashgabat.

“Turkmennebit”, “Turkmengas”, “Turkmenhimiya” and “Turkmengeologiya” in partnership with Turkmen Forum and GaffneyCline organized this prestigious event.

More than 100 delegates from various countries, among which an impressive list of representatives of international companies such as CNPC, SOCAR, Petronas, Areti, Mitro International, Dragon Oil, Lukoil participated in the conference. The International Energy Agency, IRENA, the Global Gas Center, the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries represent the largest oil and gas organizations.

Members of numerous international organizations and financial institutions – the UN, OSCE, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, EBRD and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan will join the meetings and panel discussions.

The forum consists of 4 sessions, the first one is devoted to the environmental aspects of hydrocarbon development and the transition to a new era of energy. The main speech – Narly Akmammedov, Director of the Institute “Nebitgazylmytaslama” of the State Concern “Turkmennebit”.

Speakers:

• Dmitry Shlapachenko is the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan.
• Manfredi Caltagirone is the head of the International Observatory for Methane Emissions.
• Diego Ruiz Alonso - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the European Union in Turkmenistan.
• Igor Zgurov is a member of the board of Yug-Neftegaz Private Limited.
• Michael Curran is Head of Emissions Trading, Vitol.
• Randy Christiansen is Economic Affairs Officer (UNESCAP). John McGregor - Ambassador, Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.

The second session of the forum will discuss hydrogen as the fuel of the future. The main speech - Maksat Charyev, Head of the International Economic Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Speakers:

• Bayrammyrat Atamanov - Rector of the Yagshigeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas.
• Jim Plutt is M&A Project Manager at BP.
• Anton Chernyshev is Director for the “Europe and Central Asia” at UGTR.
• Phillippe Millette is Global Market Manager for the Refining and Chemicals Industry at Honeywell Process Solutions.
• Yasuhisa Fukuda is a project manager for the GTG plant at Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.
• Dovlet Allayarov - Head of the Renewable Energy Development Service of the State Energy Corporation “Turkmenenergo”.
• Kamel Ben-Naceur is the President of SPE.

Session 3 is devoted to reducing methane and CO2 emissions to achieve zero emissions and monetization. The main speech - Bayrammyrat Pirniyazov, Director of the Natural Gas Research Institute of the State Concern “Turkmengas”.

Speakers:
• Dmitry Dementyev is Head of Decarburization, Schlumberger Russia and Central Asia.
• Jumamyrat Saparmyradov - Head of the Department of Environmental Protection and Hydrometeorology of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.
• Olga Gassan-Zade – Principal Consultant, Carbon Limits.
• George Kourounis is a researcher at the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

The final 4th session will present new opportunities for environmental/climate finance and initiatives in promoting clean energy. The main speech - Babanyaz Yalakov, Head of the Fuel and Energy Complex Department of the Financial Monitoring Service of the Industry of the Department of Economic Development and Finance of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan.

Speakers:

• Rovshen Nurmuhammedov is the head of the UNDP Program Department.
• William Leaf is a politico-military adviser to the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.
• Alexandre Bertuzzi is Advisor to the Board of Directors, Valgo.
• Raed Jawad is Chief Commercial Counsel, GaffneyCline.
• Julian Bowden is a senior fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.
