The new Country Director of the Asian Development Bank in Turkmenistan Artur Andrysiak has arrived in Ashgabat, reports the ADB official website. He was appointed to this position in May this year.
As Country Director, Artur Andrysiak will oversee ADB’s local operations as well as the development of a new country partnership strategy that will build on efforts to help the country diversify its economy and achieve its development goals.
Artur Andrysiak is an Australian citizen and holds a BA in Economics and Finance from Edith Cowan University and an MA in Management and Accounting from the Australian National University. Andrysiak has over 22 years of professional experience. Before joining ADB, he was a statistician for the UN agencies – ESCAP and ECE. He also served as Assistant Director for International Trade and Services at the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Andrysiak joined the Asian Development Bank in 2012 and has since worked in various regional and operational departments. In recent years, he was Deputy Director of the ADB Country Office in Afghanistan, where he supported the management of the bank’s operations in the country, including the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
ADB is a multilateral development bank with 677 member countries, 48 of which are in the region and 19 in other parts of the world. Policy dialogue, loans, equity investments, guarantees, grants, and technical assistance are ADB’s main instruments for assisting developing member countries.
ADB and Turkmenistan cooperation began in 2000. Since then, fruitful cooperation has been established with the bank in financing investment programs and projects, the main task of which is to stimulate economic growth in Asia.
ADB’s activities in Turkmenistan focus on developing the transport and energy sectors, with infrastructure projects aimed at promoting regional cooperation.
