Turkmenistan took part in the Geneva conference on humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

Today, the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan took part in the Geneva conference on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, convened at the initiative of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported.

As reported by foreign media, representatives of dozens of countries that participated in the conference, pledged more than 1 billion USD in humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

Earlier, Guterres asked countries to raise 606 million USD by the end of the year to provide urgent assistance to 11 million Afghans.

The UN has decided to gives 20 million USD from the Central Emergency Response Fund.

Turkmenistan systematically provides humanitarian assistance to neighboring Afghanistan. Recall that in early September, a humanitarian cargo was sent to Afghanistan, including medicines, protective clothing for medical personnel, medical supplies, disinfectants, medicinal solutions, protective masks, surgical gloves, means and drugs for the treatment of coronavirus infection.

The crisis in Afghanistan has exacerbated after the radical Taliban movement (an organization are banned in the Russian Federation) took control of the country. On August 15, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani run abroad, and representatives of the group entered Kabul without a fight. US military personnel to the beginning of September completely left Afghanistan, ending his nearly 20-year presence there.
