Gulbadam Babamuratova, the only representative of Turkmenistan in the judo tournament at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, failed to make it to the 1/8 finals. In the first round of the competition in the weight category up to 52 kg, she lost today to the multiple champion of Israel Gili Cohen and was eliminated from the fight for medals.
At the beginning of the second minute of the fight, the judges assigned the score “sido” to G. Cohen for the passivity of the opponent's fight, and at the time mark of 3 minutes 49 seconds they stopped the fight altogether, awarding a clean victory to the Israeli athlete.
Earlier, G. Babamuratova and G. Cohen met each other in 2019 at the international Grand Prix tournament in Tbilisi. And then a judoka from Israel also won the victory.
In the second round of competitions at the Tokyo Games, Gili Cohen lost to the bronze medalist of the 2012 Olympics in London, the 2013 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, the winner of the 2015 European Games in Baku and the 2016 European champion in Kazan in the weight category up to 48 kg, Charlene van Snick from Belgium, and also dropped out of the fight for medals.
In the weight category up to 52 kg at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, medals are contested by 29 judokas.
