President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced his readiness to host international weightlifting competitions in Turkmenistan in the future. This is stated in the letter of the head of state to the interim president of the International Weightlifting Federation Michael Irani, the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper reports today.
Expressing gratitude for the letter addressed to him, the President of Turkmenistan noted great satisfaction and a sense of joy with which the good news set out in M. Irani's message that the Turkmen athlete Yulduz Jumabayeva, speaking in 2018 at the 2018 World Weightlifting Championship in weight category up to 45 kilograms, became the gold medalist in the clean and jerk and the silver medalist in the snatch.
“We were very happy and filled with pride that our compatriot won gold and silver medals in weightlifting. In addition, our pride was increased by the fact that the Turkmen athlete with a weight of 104 kilograms in clean and jerk and in total - 179 kilograms has renewed the world record among juniors”, the leader of the nation stressed in his message.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also noted that the development of physical culture and sports, broad international cooperation in this area are among the priorities of state policy.
In a short historical period of time in Turkmenistan, modern sports complexes and facilities corresponding to world standards were built and commissioned, including the Olympic town that has no analogues in the region, which allow holding international sports events at a high level.
In recent years, guided by the humanistic principles of the Olympic movement, large-scale international sports tournaments have been organized in Turkmenistan.
An example of this is the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, successfully held in 2017, the Amul – Hazar 2018 international rally and the World Weightlifting Championship, as well as the Asian Championships in various sports, noted the leader of the nation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
“We are carrying out the relevant work in order to organize at a high level the World Track Cycling Championship and the qualifying stage of the Davis Cup tournament this year, and in 2022 the World Sambo Championship,” the head of state said in a message.
Expressing confidence that the effective partnership between Turkmenistan and the International Weightlifting Federation will continue to develop and strengthen, the President of our country invited Mr. Michael Irani to visit Turkmenistan at any time convenient for him.
“We will be very glad to receive you on the ancient Turkmen land as an honorable and dear guest,” the head of Turkmenistan emphasized in his message, wishing the Acting President of the International Weightlifting Federation good health, family happiness and great success in noble activities.
