The Minister of Ecology of Kazakhstan announced about the volume increase of water in the Aral Sea

Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Serikkali Brekeshev in his congratulatory address to compatriots on the Day of the Aral Sea said, that the volume of water in the Aral Sea has increased by 11,5 cubic km, reports the press service of the ministry.

As he noted, thanks to the implementation by Kazakhstan of the first phase of the project “Regulation of the bed of the Syr Darya River and preservation of the northern part of the Aral Sea”, the throughput capacity of the Syr Darya increased from 350 to 700 cubic m per second; the volume of water in the sea increased by 11,5 cubic km – from 15,6 cubic km to 27,1 cubic km; mineralization of water decreased from 23 to 17 g/l.

This project is one of the largest, implemented in the region, noted the minister.

At present time on behalf of the head of state, a project of the second phase “Restoration of the northern part of the Aral Sea” is preparing. It is planned to build and reconstruct hydraulic structures, and also reconstruct fish hatcheries during the implementation of the project, said Brekeshev.
