Within the framework of the first Ministerial Forum of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on Sustainable Development in the city of Arkadag, ECO Secretary General Asad Majid Khan and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nokerguly Atagulyev held talks. This was reported on the ECO website.
During the discussion, the ECO Secretary General shared key statistics on trade, noting that in 2023, the ECO region’s contribution to world trade reached 1 trillion 16 billion US dollars, with intra-regional trade amounting to 82 billion US dollars. He also welcomed Turkmenistan’s proposal to conduct a feasibility study of the ECO on common border areas with Iran and informed N. Atagulyev about the upcoming ECO ministerial meetings on various areas, inviting Turkmenistan to actively participate and contribute to these discussions.
The importance of Turkmenistan signing and ratifying several agreements, including the ECO Trade Agreement (ECOTA) and the Agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Investments (APPI) to strengthen trade relations and economic cooperation was also highlighted.
Dr. Khan expressed appreciation for Turkmenistan’s active role in the ECO, emphasizing the country’s commitment to regional economic development and praising the excellent organization of the Forum, the source noted.
