On February 17, the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN in Geneva, together with the Interpeace Building platform, held an event at the World Trade Organization (WTO) headquarters entitled “Building Resilience through Trade: Working Together for a Sustainable World.”
The meeting was devoted to the relationship between economic development, sustainable peace and the principles of neutrality. The event was attended by representatives of international organizations, the media and the private sector, according to the website of the Turkmen Permanent Mission.
WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala addressed the participants with a video message.
The key speaker was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev, who noted that 2025 was declared the Year of Peace and Trust by the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Turkmenistan.
He emphasized that the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality confirms the country's commitment to the principles of peaceful cooperation, economic integration and sustainable development. The Turkmen experience demonstrates that neutrality does not mean isolation, but, on the contrary, creates favorable conditions for international partnership and sustainable trade.
Representatives of the International Trade Centre (ITC), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and leading private companies discussed practical steps to expand business participation in peacekeeping initiatives and trade and economic cooperation.
The event became a key platform for exchanging views, best practices and developing strategies, the source notes.
