Members of the Federation Council unanimously elected Valentina Matviyenko as the chamber's chairperson. She has held this post since 2011, according to the website of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
The candidacy was presented by the oldest senator at the moment, Vice Speaker Yuri Vorobyov. He reminded that Matviyenko became the first woman to head the upper house of parliament.
Among the priorities for the autumn session, Matviyenko named work on the federal budget for 2025-2027. In addition, parliamentary hearings on updating the Strategy for Spatial Development of Russia are planned for the autumn.
