A practical training was organized at the State Hydrometeorological Service of Turkmenistan within the framework of the project “Development of the National Adaptation Planning Process in Turkmenistan”, implemented by UNDP in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan with the financial support of the Green Climate Fund.

The week-long training was led by UNDP International Consultant Mustafa Arman and brought together relevant specialists, including leading engineers and laboratory staff of the State Hydrometeorological Service.

The training was organized to improve the necessary skills and knowledge in monitoring, collecting and analyzing climate data to provide accurate forecasts for the medium and long term, according to a UNDP press release.

The State Hydrometeorological Service of Turkmenistan is the main organization in the country responsible for providing weather and climate services. The information provided by the Service is essential for strengthening the resilience of economies and communities in the face of climate change.

“High-quality, timely and accurate weather information and early warning are essential for ensuring the preparedness of the population for appropriate actions and, thus, minimizing the damage caused by natural disasters,” said Maya Ashirova, UNDP/GCF NAP Project Manager.

This is already the third practical training organized by the UNDP project within the framework of this project over the past two years.
