Turkmenistan accredited new ambassador of Cyprus

Credentials from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus (with residence in Moscow) Kipros Yorgallis were received today on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov by the Chairwoman of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova, the information program Watan of the Turkmen television reported.

“In order to develop and strengthen the relations of friendship and mutual understanding between our two countries, Mr. Kypros Yorgallis has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus to Turkmenistan. The high personal qualities and abilities of Mr. Kypros Yorgallis give confidence that he will carry out the duties of his important mission in such a way as to earn the full approval and respect of Your Excellency,” reads the text of the credentials signed by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis.

On behalf of the head of Turkmenistan, the head of the national parliament congratulated the diplomat on his appointment to a responsible position, wishing him success in strengthening the ties of friendship and interstate dialogue, which is successfully developing both on a bilateral and multilateral basis, primarily in the format of major international organizations and structures.

During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on issues of productive interaction, built from the standpoint of equality and mutual benefit.

Ambassador Kypros Yorgallis was informed about the main directions and priorities of the domestic and foreign policy of independent neutral Turkmenistan, the most important vector of which is the establishment of broad international cooperation in the interests of global peace, security and sustainable development.

The diplomat also got acquainted with the structure and activities of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, its work on legislative support for reforms in various fields, and the exchange of experience in lawmaking. In this regard, a separate topic of discussion was the possibility of expanding the inter-parliamentary dialogue, including within the framework of international parliamentary structures.

Emphasizing the interest of his country in enhancing bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas, Kypros Yorgallis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus to Turkmenistan, assured that he would make every effort to further deepen the multifaceted partnership that meets mutual interests.

Today, the Ambassador of Cyprus Kypros Yorgallis was also received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. During the meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Berdiniyaz Myatiev, important issues of cooperation were discussed. Noting the relevance of maintaining a political dialogue at a high level, the parties stressed the role of the consultation mechanism at the level of the foreign ministries of the two countries.

At the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus to Turkmenistan, Kypros Yorgallis replaced Andreas Zinonos, who had previously completed his diplomatic mission in this Central Asian country.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Cyprus were established on November 13, 2007.
