Japanese figure skater Hanyu announces his retirement

Two-time Olympic champion in figure skating from Japan – Yuzuru Hanyu announced his retirement, reports RIA Novosti.

According to Hanyu, he will not compete with other skaters as an athlete, while continuing to perform in ice shows.

The 27 years old Japanese is a two-time Olympic champion (2014, 2018), a two-time world champion (2014, 2017), a four-time winner of the Grand Prix Finals and a winner of the Four Continents Tournament (2020) in men’s singles.

In March of this year, Hanyu missed the World Figure Skating Championship due to an ankle injury.
