The Russian Federation will withdraw from the Bologna system of higher education. This was announced on May 24 by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov, according to Russian media.

According to him, the Bologna system is a living stage, and the future belongs to its own "unique education system" based on the interests of the national economy and the maximum space of opportunities for each student."

First of all, we are talking about rejecting the accepted two-level system of training in universities (4 years of Bachelor's degree and 2 years of Master's degree) and returning to the specialty (5-6 years of study). The Ministry will prepare a new list of specialties by 2024.

The Bologna system of education, built on a two-tier system of higher education, appeared in 1999. The key advantage of the system is the so-called academic mobility of the student, in which, having started studying in one country, a person can continue studies in another one, and complete it in a third country in general.

Another feature of the system is the concept of lifelong education, which provides for the possibility of continuous, lifelong learning, it allows a person receiving several diplomas and academic degrees during life, and the university receives additional income by providing a base for training for those who wish to study.
