New snake species found in Paraguay

Earlier a species of snake unknown to science was found in Paraguay. Researcher Jean-Paul Brouard stumbled across a new species while digging a hole at the Laguna Blanca ranch, announced mir24.

The new species, characterized by a bright red color, received the scientific name Phalotris shawnella. The snake of this species belongs to the genus Phalotries, which includes 15 already known varieties, and is not poisonous. This rare species of snake has a red head with a yellow “collar”, a black stripe on the sides and an orange belly with irregular black spots. For the entire period of observation, scientists were able to identify only three individuals of a new species. Experts have already listed Phalotris shawnella as “Endangered”.
