India imposes a total ban on wheat exports

In accordance with the sharp rise in world prices for wheat, the Ministry of Trade and Industry of India reported that the government of the country had decided to introduce a complete ban on the export of wheat, writes gazeta.ru.

“Taking into accounts the sudden rise in world wheat prices due to many factors, which puts the food security of India, neighboring and other vulnerable countries at risk, the Government of India is committed to ensuring the food security of India, neighboring and other vulnerable developing countries, which are negatively affected by sudden changes in the world wheat market and who cannot access adequate supplies of wheat”, the message says.

As informs the publication Reuters, India exported 1,2 million tons of wheat in April this year, a record high for the country.
