South African authorities are getting ready for an invasion of brown locusts. Insect multiply quite fast and in the country, it is expected that the outbreak will be the largest in recent decades. As Angela Thoko Diziza, the Minister of Agriculture, Land Reforms and Rural Development of South Africa, notes that the outbreak of brown locusts, which began in September last year, has now acquired a dangerous scale due to the large amount of precipitation.

As per mir24 messages, insects already have started to devastate crops and pastures in the provinces of the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape. A special brigade of 1,200 people has been sent to combat pests. They chemicalize the districts where the breeding is concentrated and for the work in hard-to-reach areas the helicopters are used. It is highlighted that the South African government spent 80 million South African rand (about 5,437,000 USD) for locust control program.
