As per Trend, the new terminal of the international airport of Samarkand has been put into operation.
The old airport of Samarkand was built in 1967. In November 2018 the decision on its reconstruction was made. The construction of the new terminal was executed by the company Enter Engineering. The facility construction cost 80 million US dollars.
The airport terminal is constructed in the shape of opened book. The lighting sky map with some constellations recognized from the air, especially when landing at night, is piсtered on the roof.
The reconstructed Samarkand airport will start working in full scale on the 1st of April 2022. The air harbor will start accepting international flights.
It is expected that the airport's capacity will increase from 350 to 1000 passengers per hour, the potential passenger traffic - from 460 thousand to 2 million per year, and the number of scheduled flights - from 40 to 120 per week.
The terminal includes 29 check in counters, 8 boarding gates, 4 telescopic ladders, 10 passport control booths and 6 “E-gate” systems for departure passengers, also 15 passport control booths for arriving passengers.
At present time the airport is exploited by the private company Air Marakanda.
