The election of the president of Turkmenistan is a meaningful stride towards further democratization of the Turkmen society. This was declared by the acting Head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, commenting on the unfolding pre-election struggle of candidates for the highest state post at a meeting of the State Security Council today, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
“The socio-political campaign for the election of the President of Turkmenistan that has waged in the country is a significant step towards further democratization of modern Turkmen society, strengthening the principles of genuine democracy traditionally inherent in the Turkmen people,” Berdimuhamedov said.
“Every Turkmen citizen who possess with the right to vote will vote at his place of residence and the worthiest candidate for the post of the President of Turkmenistan will be elected” is said in the message of the State News Agency.
As reported, today, according to the Electoral Code, the early voting for the election of the President of Turkmenistan for the citizens, who, for some reason or another, on the 12th of March will not be able to come to their polling station and vote for the worthiest candidate, has started.
Early voting took place at all 2577 polling stations of the country, as well as at 41, formed abroad at the diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan.
