Turkmenistan plans to produce hydrogen fuel

Turkmenistan plans to set up an infrastructure for the production, storage and transportation of hydrogen energy. This was announced at today's Government meeting, the State Information Agency reports.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov reported to the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the development of cooperation with the international organizations in the area of hydrogen energy.

Meredov informed that, in recent years, the pace of work on the transition to low-carbon energy and hydrogen fuel has been increasing in the world that will lead to a change in the distribution of energy demand in the future. In this regard, a draft ‘Roadmap for the Development of International Cooperation of Turkmenistan in the Area of Hydrogen Energy for 2022-2023’ has been drawn up.

Turkmenistan plans to produce, store and transport hydrogen energy by attracting large investments to the industry. To this end, it is proposed to set up an Interdepartmental Working Group on the development of hydrogen energy in Turkmenistan.

To achieve these goals, it is proposed to cooperate with the international organizations, including the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Energy Charter, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other organizations.

To train qualified specialists, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed establishing a Hydrogen Energy Center at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas, as well as scientific contacts with foreign partners.

In general, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the proposals presented and stressed that Turkmenistan will continue taking consistent steps to promote fruitful international cooperation in the area of low-carbon, and, in particular, hydrogen energy. The Deputy Prime Minister was instructed to continue the relevant work in this area.
