Once one of the most secure operating systems, Linux is rapidly losing its reputation. According to iguides.ru with reference to crowdstrike.com, compared to 2020, the number of damage program, created for Linux in 2021 increased by 35%. At the same time, the majority, about 22% of all cyberattacks on Linux, fall on three exploits: XorDDoS, Mirai and Mozi. Over the last couple of years, Linux has become more popular due to its free basis, and the OS has become more used by government agencies, large brands of home appliances, and also used in cloud infrastructures.

The popularity of Linux has not gone unnoticed by hackers and attackers, and therefore the number of new exploits and cases of their use in real attacks is increasing day by day on the world wide web. According to experts, the most common use of hacked Linux computers is to combine them into a botnet to carry out massive DDoS attacks, send spam, or mine cryptocurrencies.
