Turkmenistan intends to expand cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union. This was announced today at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a specialized agency of the United Nations, is the leading international organization in the field of digitalization at the global level. Turkmenistan, being a member of this organization, carries out active international cooperation on a systematic basis.

An example of successful joint activities is the launch of the first artificial communications satellite of Turkmenistan “TürkmenÄlem52 ° E” into space.

According to Vice - Premier and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, in order to further develop the digital economy in the country, it is proposed to cooperate with the International Telecommunication Union in a number of specific areas.

So, taking into account the special importance attached to the issues of strengthening cybersecurity, it is proposed to develop drafts of the National Cybersecurity Strategy of Turkmenistan and an Action Plan for its implementation. In this regard, in the first half of this year, it is planned to establish regular consultations between ITU and the relevant state institutions of our country on improving their work, organize national training courses and take part in trainings on cybersecurity at the regional level, conduct an awareness campaign among the population on cybersecurity issues, which will help to improve the position of Turkmenistan in the Global Cybersecurity Index, compiled by the International Telecommunication Union.

Due to the fact that the main direction of the transition of the national economy to digital rails is the establishment of “electronic government”, then, guided by the experience of the organization in this area, in the first quarter of 2022, it is planned to hold interagency meetings with the participation of ITU specialists.

Since 2012, the Academy of the International Telecommunication Union has been operating, which provides educational and training opportunities in the field of digital systems and innovative technologies. As part of the Digital Transformation Centers project being implemented by the Academy, it is proposed to draw up a separate curriculum for specialized specialists and students of our country, which will include activities to familiarize themselves with the world practice in the field of international information, communication and its implementation in our country.

Taking into account the above, R. Meredov noted the expediency of preparing the Work Plan for 2022 to further strengthen cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union.

Having listened to the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that this issue is extremely urgent and is directly linked to the state policy in the field of digitalization.

Turkmenistan, which has embarked on the path of innovative development, sets itself a number of key tasks in accordance with the requirements of the time. Among them - the active introduction of the most advanced information and communication technologies and ensuring cyber security.

Having approved the proposals on further development of mutually beneficial cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union, the head of state gave a number of specific instructions in this regard, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
