The World Health Organization has included video game addiction in the new 11th International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). Video and digital gambling addiction has supplemented the section on addictive disorders. According to WHO experts, gambling disorder manifests itself in the loss of control over the time spent in the game - both online and offline. Another symptom of addiction is a shift in priorities from other interests and daily activities in favor of video games, even when negative consequences arise.

This diagnosis can be made if the behavior pattern entails violations in the personal, family, social and other areas and is observed for at least 12 months. However, in some severe cases, the disorder may be diagnosed earlier than the recommended time. As the daily.afisha.ru edition notes, WHO planned to add gambling addiction to the International Classification of Diseases in 2017, but the changes in the document came into force only on January 1, 2022.
