Turkmenistan prepares for the XV ECO summit

The meeting of the leaders of the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which will be held on November 28 in Ashgabat, will be a good opportunity to exchange views on a wide range of issues. Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiev stated this at a briefing at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan today.

During the meeting, representatives of the media from about 20 countries were familiarized with the preparations for the XV ECO summit, which Turkmenistan will host as the country chairing this organization. The date of its holding - November 28 - was chosen on the day of the formation of the ECO. In order to organize the summit at a high level, an organizing committee was created.

As noted, within the framework of the main events of the summit, a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, as well as a business forum of the ECO member countries will be held.

As the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan” reports today, during a working meeting the day before, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to fruitful cooperation with the ECO, which is one of the authoritative international structures. Turkmenistan stands for building up mutually beneficial partnership between the member states of this Organization in various fields, makes efforts to strengthen the role of ECO in the world arena.

Expressing confidence that the upcoming XV summit of the Organization for Economic Cooperation in the Turkmen capital and the events planned within its framework will make a great contribution to the further development of traditionally friendly interstate relations and multifaceted interaction meeting common interests, the leader of the nation gave Vice-Premier Serdar Berdimuhamedov specific instructions on comprehensive preparation to this important international event.

Turkmenistan has been a member of ECO since 1992. This large specialized regional association was created in 1985 with the aim of more effective interstate cooperation in the spheres of economy and trade.
