President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated Bashar al-Assad on taking office as President of the Syrian Arab Republic.
In a congratulatory telegram, which was published today in the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan”, the Turkmen leader, on behalf of the people and the Government of Turkmenistan, as well as on his own behalf, wished Assad “good health, energy, as well as great success in all undertakings and activities aimed at progress and prosperity of the friendly people of Syria”.
On July 17, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad took the oath in Damascus as head of state for a fourth seven-year term. In the presidential elections in the Arab Republic, which took place on May 26, Assad received the support of 95.1% of voters.
