The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan spoke with colleagues from the countries of Central Asia and the United States

Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, within the framework of the “C5+1” format, took part in an online meeting of the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of the Central Asian states and the United States of America.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the videoconference participants exchanged views on topical issues of cooperation between the countries of the region and the United States.

In his speech, the head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry noted the constructive approach of all parties to the development of partnership in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, environmental and other spheres.

Special attention at the meeting was paid to the problems of climate change and environmental protection.

In this context, specific initiatives and proposals of the Turkmen side were voiced, aimed at expanding the interaction of the Central Asian countries with the United States in the above areas.

In particular, the need to establish a Regional Climate Technology Center was emphasized. It was also proposed to consider the possibility of forming scientific and environmental clusters. At the same time, it was noted that as a first step in this direction, it is advisable to organize a series of training sessions with the participation of American experts.

The Turkmen minister dwelled on the problem of the Aral Sea in detail, pointing out the need to intensify work on the preparation of the UN Special Program for the countries of the Aral Sea basin initiated by the President of Turkmenistan.

In addition, the water theme was updated. In this regard, the position of Turkmenistan was declared that water issues in Central Asia should be resolved on the basis of generally recognized norms of international law, taking into account the interests of all countries in the region and with the participation of international organizations.

The parties agreed on the need to continue the regular and systematic dialogue in the “C5 + 1” format, giving it a practical character.
