Three-day political consultations between foreign-policy establishments of Turkmenistan with the Unites States of America commenced today in the format of videoconference. It was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Business of the day includes security issues, trade and economic connections, humanitarian sector.
Rashid Meredov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, opening the meeting noted that Turkmen – American relations gain positive development dynamics. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov highly designated relations of Turkmenistan and the
USA on the last Government session, highlighted Meredov.
During the first day of meeting the parties have considered the results of cooperation in the sphere of security and marked priority directions of collaboration for future.
Collaboration in the sphere of border security and combating drug trafficking were reviewed. It is highlighted that Turkmenistan is the active member mainly of all international and legal acts in the sphere of combating drug, also the first country to confirm an agreement on the establishment of the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center (CARIC). Moreover, Turkmenistan is the member of UN commission on drug items for 2020 – 2023.
The parties discussed issues of regional and international security, underlined growing threat of terrorism in the world.
Particular emphasis was made on Afghanistan. Initiative of Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov on readiness of the country to render its political space for setting up peace negotiations between the Government of Afghanistan and the relevant sides were pointed.
In this context the effectiveness of cooperation formats such as “Central Asia + USA” and “Turkmenistan – USA – Afghanistan” is distinguished.
