On the 75th session of the UNO General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan and with consentient supporting of state – members of the Community of nations the Resolution “The role and significance of the policy of neutrality in maintaining and strengthening international peace, security and the process of sustainable development” was adopted.
The document recommends all member states, UNO organizations and other international, regional and subregional organizations to use the potential of neutral states and mediation in the peaceful settlement of disputes, prevention and resolution of conflicts and welcomes the decision of the Government of Turkmenistan to host an international conference on peace, security and development dedicated to the International Day of Neutrality - 12 December.
Moreover, on the 47th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation the Resolution “The role of the policy of neutrality in maintaining and strengthening international peace, security and sustainable development in the region of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and around the world” was adopted.
The document recognizes the positive role that neutral countries play in the provision and delivery of humanitarian assistance in complex emergencies and natural disasters, in line with the guiding principles for strengthening the coordination of UNO humanitarian relief, including the principle of neutrality. The Resolution emphasizes that the implementation of the policy of neutrality contributes to the strengthening of international and regional stability, plays an important role in the development of peaceful, friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the countries of the world.
The OIC also calls all state – members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and its institutions to actively participate in the International Conference of high level “The policy of neutrality and its importance in ensuring international peace, security and sustainable development” that is to be held on 12th of December 2020 in Ashgabat, states newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan”.
