The 4th meeting of the joint working group between the UN agencies and the government of Turkmenistan on the socio-economic impact of COVID-19 was held in Ashgabat.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Mejlis, the Ombudsman's Office, relevant ministries and departments, UN agencies accredited in our country, reputable financial institutions (World Bank, ADB, EBRD) and public organizations.
The agenda includes discussion of the implementation of the "plan of operational socio-economic measures in Turkmenistan against the acute infectious disease pandemic".
This document was approved by the Decree of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in July this year in order to maintain the high pace of development of our country, take practical steps to reduce the impact of the difficult situation in the world due to coronavirus, as well as implement at the national level relevant international initiatives put forward within the framework of the UN.
The participants of the meeting informed about the measures taken to implement the above-mentioned Plan and discussed issues related to the analysis of statistical data.
In particular, the detailed Plan monitoring table developed by UNDP in Turkmenistan was reviewed, which integrates indicators adopted by the UN at the global level for reporting on the socio-economic response to the pandemic by UN country offices.
At the end of the event, further steps were determined in order to successfully solve urgent problems in this direction, the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper reports today.
