The foreign Minister of Turkmenistan took part in a meeting of the Council of heads of government of the CIS

Issues of economic cooperation in the CIS, including taking into account the current epidemiological situation in the CIS countries and in the world as a whole, were put on the agenda of the meeting of the Council of heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States, held today in the format of a videoconference.

According to the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the delegation of our country at the meeting on behalf of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was represented by Deputy Prime Minister, head of the foreign Ministry Rashid Meredov. Speaking at the meeting, he confirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to cooperation within the CIS, in particular on the implementation of the Commonwealth's economic development Strategy for the period up to 2030. In this regard, special emphasis is placed on developing multilateral transport links and promoting sustainable transport and transit corridors along the North-South and East-West lines.

The Turkmen side expressed interest in developing cooperation in such areas as the agro - industrial complex, mechanical engineering, oil and gas processing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, services, and the humanitarian field.

The initiative of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to declare 2021 the year of architecture and urban development in the CIS was also highlighted.

So, in May this year, at a meeting of the Council of heads of Government of the Commonwealth, the Turkmen side signed a Decision on the corresponding action Plan. In this context, the participants of the meeting were informed about the events planned to be held in Turkmenistan in the field of architecture and urban development next year.

At the current meeting, the action Plan for the implementation of the first stage of the CIS economic development Strategy for the period up to 2030 was approved. The plan covers 2021-2025 and includes 29 sections devoted to trade and economic cooperation, industry, fuel and energy complex, transport, communications and Informatization, agriculture, monetary and financial policy, and the labor market.

The document provides for the development and implementation of joint measures and projects to expand mutually beneficial industrial cooperation between enterprises and technologically related industries, support investment and scientific cooperation, ensure the digitalization of the national economy, enhance cooperation in the field of innovation, facilitate the transit of cargo transportation across the state borders of the CIS countries, develop mutual trade in goods and services, and ensure the smooth operation of national payment systems.

A significant place in the Plan is occupied by the development of the securities market and the insurance market, building up educational and scientific potential. There is a special section dedicated to minimizing the negative consequences for the economies of the CIS countries of sanitary and epidemiological emergencies caused by the rapid spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infection.

In addition, the action Plan for the implementation of the strategy for ensuring transport security in the territories of the CIS member States in international transport for the period 2020-2025 and the plan of priority measures in the field of humanitarian cooperation for 2021-2022 were approved.

Speaking about the importance of sports and its role in strengthening peace and mutual understanding between peoples, R. Meredov noted the significance of the decision on the CIS Games adopted in October 2019, and expressed the readiness of the Turkmen side to provide practical assistance in organizing sports competitions.

The next meeting of the Council is scheduled to be held in Minsk in may next year.
