The foreign Minister of Turkmenistan took part in the meeting of the “Central Asia + Russia”

Minister of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov took part in the third meeting of foreign Ministers of Central Asia and Russia, which was held today in an online format. This is reported by the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The meeting was attended by Minister of foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Tleuberdi, Minister of foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic R. Kazakbayev, Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S. Lavrov, Minister of foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan S. Muhriddin and Minister of foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Kamilov.

Rashid Meredov, speaking at the meeting, spoke about the measures taken in the country to counter the pandemic threat. He stressed the importance of strengthening regional and international cooperation in this area, stating:

“According to The initiatives announced by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during his video address to the participants of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, it is necessary to use the mechanisms of scientific diplomacy and consolidate the efforts of the relevant departments of States, primarily through the ministries of health and sanitary and epidemiological services.”

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on strengthening ties between States for security and stability in the Central Asian States. The prospects for the development of trade, economic and energy cooperation and the importance of implementing initiatives within the framework of the "Central Asia + Russia».

Special attention was paid to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including an exchange of views on creating anti-crisis plans and programs, including overcoming the socio-economic consequences for the countries of the region.

They also discussed the possibilities of expanding ties in education, science and culture. In this context, the parties stressed the Importance of the international festival of culture "Soul of Eurasia", aimed at developing cultural dialogue between countries, which will be held annually, in turn - in the cities of the CIS member States.

Noting the commitment to cooperation in the "Central Asia + Russia", The parties adopted a statement on strategic areas of cooperation.

The Statement highlights significant areas of strategic cooperation in the areas of political and diplomatic, security, trade and economic, transport, environmental protection and climate change adaptation, energy, sanitary and epidemiological welfare, migration, and humanitarian. The Statement emphasizes that different areas of cooperation imply involvement in the " Central Asia + Russia" representatives of various departments and organizations.
