The President of Turkmenistan expressed his condolences on the death of the Emir of Kuwait

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, on behalf of the people and Government of Turkmenistan, as well as on his own behalf, sent sincere condolences to the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah, on the death of the Emir of this state, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah, the state news Agency of our country reports.

"The Turkmen people share the bitterness of the fraternal people. His Excellency, as a prominent politician and statesman, has done a great job for the welfare of the state of Kuwait and the happy life of its people. I am sure that the bright memory of him will forever remain in the memory of present and future generations," the message reads.

The head of Turkmenistan conveyed words of sincere empathy and support to the family and friends of the deceased, as well as to the entire Kuwaiti people.

"May Almighty Allah grant your Excellency and all the people of Kuwait fortitude and courage," Berdimuhamedov wished.

Emir of Kuwait Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah died at the age of 92 in the United States, where he was in July in a clinic in Minnesota, according to some reports, had surgery to remove two tumors.

Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah has ruled Kuwait since January 2006. Prior to that, he served as Prime Minister, and previously for several decades headed the country's foreign Ministry.

Kuwait is a hereditary Emirate, where the throne traditionally alternates between two branches of the al-Sabah family (descendants of Mubarak al-Sabah) – al-Ahmed and al-Salem. Within a year after ascending to the throne, the Emir must appoint an heir who is approved by a majority of members of Parliament.
