President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, speaking today via video link at a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council), set a number of tasks for the agro-industrial complex of Turkmenistan.
According to the State news Agency of Turkmenistan, the President of Turkmenistan called the introduction of innovative technologies one of the key conditions for increasing labor productivity in agriculture.
Formulating the tasks of providing the domestic market with its own products, the head of state stressed the need to expand the area for growing potatoes, vegetables and other agricultural crops, and increase the volume of meat and dairy products.
"We must develop methods for restoring forests and pastures and preserving biodiversity. Research institutes of the country should create and regularly introduce into production high-yielding and disease – resistant varieties of cotton, grain and vegetable crops, fruit trees, develop biotechnological methods for protecting plants and animals – these are important tasks that will give an impetus to the development of the economy," Berdimuhamedov said.
He also noted that it would be appropriate if the Union of Industrialists and entrepreneurs, improving the program of construction of small, medium and large enterprises for the production of import-substituting products, will coordinate this activity with The Cabinet of Ministers.
"The implementation of this program will create new jobs," the head of state stressed.
According to Berdimuhamedov, our country's acquisition of observer status in the world Trade Organization creates new opportunities for developing its own production, increasing exports, as well as ensuring changes in market relations, and will contribute to improving the competitiveness of the national economy, the State news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
The meeting of the Halk Maslahaty, which has priority issues of state life on its agenda, is being held under the chairmanship of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the first time via direct video link.
