Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Ukraine held video talks

Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Ukraine Rashid Meredov and Dmitry Kuleba discussed the state and prospects of development of interstate cooperation and further steps to deepen cooperation in a number of areas during online talks held today, the press service of the Turkmen foreign Ministry reported.

Confirming their interest in intensifying mutually beneficial trade and economic partnership, the foreign Ministers expressed their support for holding a meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Ukrainian Commission on economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation as soon as possible.

Among the main topics of the consultations is the expansion of productive relations between government agencies and representatives of the business circles of the two countries. In this context, the positive experience of Ukrainian companies in Turkmenistan, in particular, in the construction and supply of railway equipment, was noted.

The participants of the meeting noted the need to develop this cooperation and called for strengthening and expanding humanitarian contacts, primarily in the field of education, science and culture.

The sides noted with satisfaction the similarity of positions of Turkmenistan and Ukraine on a number of issues on the international agenda, and also noted the constructive nature of cooperation between the two countries within the UN and other international organizations.

According to the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the Ministers discussed the steps necessary to restore direct flights between Ukraine and Turkmenistan, as well as the interaction of Maritime administrations. The importance of developing alternative transport corridors was noted

Meredov invited the Ukrainian Foreign Minister to visit Ashgabat. Kuleba proposed in the framework of the visit to hold a meeting of Ukrainian and Turkmen companies.

Following the talks, the parties signed a program of cooperation between the Ministries of foreign Affairs of the two countries for 2020-2021.
