On September 3, for the first time in six months since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, representatives of all 193 UN member States gathered in the General Assembly hall.

Prior to this, meetings of the General Assembly delegates were held online. This plenary session was a kind of rehearsal for the opening of the 75th anniversary session of the Assembly, which starts on 15 September.

During the virtual sessions, members of the General Assembly adopted more than 70 decisions and resolutions, and even held elections for new non-permanent members of the Security Council, the President of the Economic and Social Council, and the President of the upcoming 75th session of the General Assembly. He became a Turkish diplomat and political figure Volkan Bozkir.

"Despite the fact that we have not met in this hall since March, delegates in New York and in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic have continued to work tirelessly to promote the values and principles enshrined in the UN Charter," said Tijani Mohammad Bande, President of the current session of the General Assembly.

Recall that in connection with the pandemic, this year it was decided that during the 75th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, the leaders of States will address the world community via video link, and in the meeting room during the debate will be present, as this time, one representative from each country.

Earlier, we reported that the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly will be held in an unusual format.
