Scientific data on the successful completion of the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccine trial is published in the latest issue of the authoritative scientific journal "Lancet", the UN press center reports.

According to the results of the first stage of clinical trials conducted by British scientists, which involved more than a thousand people aged 18 to 55 years, the candidate vaccine does not cause serious side effects and leads to the formation of virus-neutralizing antibodies and T-cells that provide an immune response to the coronavirus. Repeated administration of the vaccine further increases this effect.

Michael Ryan, Director of the emergency Department at WHO, congratulated the British scientists on their success. Another 23 "promising candidate vaccines" are in development, he said, and the results of two studies, including the product of scientists from the University of Oxford, have already been published in scientific journals.

"This is just the first stage of testing, there is still a long way to go, but this is very good news," said Michael Ryan.
