Turkmenistan took part in the 86th session of the CIS Economic Council

Today, the 86th meeting of the economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in videoconference format, where Turkmenistan was represented by the Deputy Minister of Finance and economy. 

The agenda included issues of various spheres of economic cooperation of the CIS member States. One of the main points was an exchange of views on the socio-economic situation and possible joint measures to minimize the negative consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The participants of the videoconference were informed about the state of Affairs in Turkmenistan, whose economy is functioning normally and the macroeconomic situation remains stable. There is a fairly high and stable economic growth-at the level of 6.2 percent. At the same time, the country is rapidly responding to external challenges and adapting to changes in the economic environment.

Currently, a number of measures are being taken in the fiscal and monetary spheres, which will help smooth the impact of external factors on the development of key sectors of the economy. In this regard, on the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, an assessment and forecast of the development of industries and the budget until the end of this year was carried out.

Additional sources of financing are being sought, especially for the non-state sector of the economy, whose enterprises have suffered from the suspension of economic ties and active activities (transport, tourism, services).

The country's food security is ensured mainly by growing and producing its own agricultural products. At the same time, exports of textiles, vegetables, mineral fertilizers, and construction materials increased.

Turkmenistan, realizing the seriousness of the situation in the world caused by the coronavirus pandemic, is fully aware of the need to ensure the stability and stability of trade and economic relations between States in these conditions, as well as the viability of transport links.

The President of the country supports increasing the role of scientific diplomacy, and in this regard, at this meeting, our country proposed to consider the possibility of developing a Special program of expert exchange between countries, including at the level of medical institutions, to exchange experience in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The participants also heard information about the work on the creation of exhibition and trade centers of the CIS member States in Moscow on the territory of the exhibition of achievements of the national economy. On the eve of the 30th anniversary of the CIS, special attention was paid to this topic.

The action plan for the implementation of the strategy for ensuring transport security in the territories of the Commonwealth of Independent States when carrying out international transport for the period 2020-2025 was approved.

As a result of the online meeting, a number of documents were adopted, including: 

  • Action plan for the implementation of the Concept of cooperation of the member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the field of countering cancer for 2020-2024;
  • Information on the implementation of the Concept of formation and development of the intellectual property market of the CIS member States, approved by The decision of the Council of heads of government of the CIS on October 28, 2016;
  • document on cooperation of the CIS member States in the field of veterinary medicine and others.

The next 87th session of the CIS Economic Council is scheduled for September this year, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
