The exchange of views on regional and international issues took place today at a video meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Hanif Atmar.

Various aspects of interaction were discussed in the context of a telephone conversation between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.

As reported, during a telephone conversation between the heads of the two States, the Turkmen side supported the proposal of the Afghan leader to hold a video-conference trilateral meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan, the agenda of which will include issues of improving the efficiency of the lapis Lazuli transport corridor.

This route, given the favorable geographical location of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, is of great importance for building a productive international partnership in order to significantly increase trade volumes.

The foreign Ministers of the two countries also noted the need to develop a coordinated approach to solving urgent problems, including the coronavirus pandemic.

The Turkmen side once again confirmed that it is ready to build special facilities-terminals for railway and cargo disinfection at border railway stations and checkpoints in Afghanistan, as well as to provide these facilities with the necessary equipment, as discussed during the above-mentioned telephone conversation between the heads of state.

IRA foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar, in turn, expressed gratitude for the regular humanitarian assistance and comprehensive support provided by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
