Today, “Yildiz” hotel in the capital hosted an online training on simplifying border crossing procedures for rail and road transport transporting transit cargo.

During the meeting organized by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, representatives of the State border, customs and migration services, as well as the transport police of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Turkmenistan were familiarized with the aspects of security, public health, technical, economic and environmental aspects of border crossing for transit goods transported by rail and road, as well as with the computerization and digitalization of transport infrastructures.

"Turkmenistan is making continuous efforts to create new large-scale regional infrastructures that will facilitate communication with neighboring countries and expand cooperation with many other States through various regional platforms," Natalia Drozd, head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, said at the opening of the session.

She also noted that in the digital age, since sending, transit and receiving countries are included in the process of transporting goods across borders, it is important that the software systems used by the relevant border and customs authorities are compatible and facilitate the transit of goods.

"We organized this event to support the host country's initiatives to develop international multimodal transit corridors and sustainable transport, which are reflected in the UN General Assembly resolutions on the role of transport and transit corridors in ensuring international cooperation for sustainable development," N. Drozd said.

An international expert from the Russian Federation and representatives of the United Nations Conference on trade and development, the European Union-funded border management Program in Central Asia, the international trade Centre, the OSCE Secretariat in Vienna, the International road transport Union and the world customs organization highlighted a wide range of issues related to facilitating border crossings for goods in transit.

Experts stressed the importance of developing technologies and exchanging real-time information for effective harmonization of border and customs procedures, which will facilitate the smooth movement of goods in transit across borders.

The training also highlighted the need to further improve the legal framework in the field of transport, coordination on trade and customs procedures, and enhance interaction in the format of international organizations, which will serve to achieve economic growth and sustainable development.

The training was organized with the financial support of the Governments of Germany and Norway, according to a press release from the OSCE Center.
