The online meeting with International Monetary Fund expert Natalia Tamirisa took place among students and teachers of the International University of Humanities and development, the Turkmen state Institute of Economics and management, the Institute of international relations of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as employees of the banking sector.

The purpose of the meeting is to familiarize students with the main activities of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as well as to discuss economic issues related to the regional and global agenda. The main focus of the video forum was on Turkmenistan's cooperation with the IMF, as well as the macroeconomic situation in Central Asia and the Caucasus in the context of a global pandemic.

Natalia Tamirisa described the structure and activities of the International Monetary Fund and expressed the attitude of its representatives to the situation in the world and the region of Central Asia and the Caucasus. As you know, the IMF is a prestigious international organization that unites 184 States. The Fund was created to ensure international monetary cooperation and maintain the stability of exchange rates; support economic development and employment levels in countries around the world; providing additional funds to the economy of a particular state in the short term. The IMF works closely with the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus, and for Turkmenistan it is an important strategic partner in carrying out economic transformation and providing technical and Advisory assistance.

Natalia Tamirisa:

We regularly conduct assessments and forecasts of economic development in Turkmenistan, which can serve as a reliable view from the outside. Being able to draw on international experience, the organization can analyze the processes taking place in the Turkmen economic system, as well as formulate practical advice in one form or another.

In 2019, Ms. Natalia Tamirisa led an IMF mission to Turkmenistan to assess the development of the country's macroeconomic and financial situation. As part of her working visit, she and her colleagues held meetings with senior officials of local government agencies, representatives of the financial sector, as well as diplomatic missions, the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper reports.
