Today, the 23rd meeting of the Task force on health aspects of air pollution was held under the chairmanship of the world health organization, acting under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Convention on long-range transboundary air pollution. Representatives of the United Nations specialized agencies accredited in Turkmenistan, as well as the Ministry of health and medical industry of the country participated in the event via videoconference.

The experts discussed the results of recent scientific research in this area and the work plan of the Task force for the implementation of the updated long-term strategy of the Convention, which outlines priorities for 2020-2030. The Convention makes a significant contribution to the development of international environmental law for the control and reduction of damage related to the impact of transboundary air pollution on human health and the environment.

As it was emphasized, Turkmenistan is a party to 20 multilateral international environmental instruments. A new version of the national climate change strategy was approved last year. The relevant norms of international law are implemented in the laws "On the protection of the ozone layer" and "on the protection of atmospheric air".

Increasing the country's scientific and technical potential, including the large-scale modernization of enterprises in the fuel and energy complex, construction and chemical industries, and utilities, also contributes to reducing the negative impact on the environment, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
