The country was summed up in the National Museum of the Turkmen carpet. The main goal of the contest is to popularize the art of hand-made carpet weaving and preserve its best traditions, the "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper reports.
The event was organized by the Union of women of Turkmenistan, the national center of trade unions and the state Association "Turkmencarpet".
The contestants quoted fragments from the literary works of the leader of the nation "Living legend" and "Beauty of heaven" about the centuries-old history of the Turkmen carpet, which is a reflection of the history of the Turkmen people.
Also, according to the terms of the contest, the participants had to describe the technique of carpet production, because each of the five velayats has its own subtleties and peculiarities in the dressing and coloring of threads, its own patterns and ornaments. Each carpet-maker told about what wool and dyes she used for the production of carpet thread.
They also spoke about the international significance of Turkmen carpet weaving and its inclusion in the representative list of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage. The contestants supplemented their performances with song and poetic compositions.
Following the contest Grand Prix received representatives of Balkan province Bahar Gazakova and Korpe Ataeva; 1st place was awarded to the carpet from the city of Ashgabat Gulshat Shyhyeva and Keyik Annabaeva, 2nd place – Nabat Bekjanova and Durli Bekjanova of Dashoguz velayat, and gul Mametkuliyeva and Guller Bekieva of Lebap province, 3rd place – Annasoltan Mammedova and Ogulgerek Ataeva from Akhal province, as well as Shasenem Gurbanova and Merjen Akadova of Mary province.
All participants were awarded valuable gifts and prizes.
